Singing the Shirt is a performance based on the video installation The Song of the Shirt and the accompanying 16 mm satellite films (2020). The work looks in depth at specific modes of production in the fields of agriculture, weaving, processing, knitting and storytelling, which can be understood as narrative structures that can tell us about complex social changes in everyday experiences.
Singing the Shirt ist eine Performance, die auf der Videoinstallation The Song of the Shirt und den dazugehörigen 16-mm-Satellitenfilmen (2020) basiert. Das Werk befasst sich eingehend mit bestimmten Produktionsweisen in den Bereichen
Landwirtschaft, Weberei, Verarbeitung, Strickerei und Erzählkunst, die einerseits als narrative Strukturen verstanden werden können, die uns von komplexen gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen in alltäglichen Erfahrungen berichten können.

And as a counter-narrative, the voices - an exchange of letters - search for subverting forms of sabotage, for practices of weaving the stories and telling the textiles, which "manufacturing practices, pedagogical practices and cosmological performances" (D. Haraway). In the performance, the physical legacy of productive labor and the materiality of textile (cotton) production are translated into movement practices, the projection surfaces are woven and woven, covering and hiding the performers at the same time. In this way, the material itself - the cotton canvas - proves to be the main protagonist.

Geschichten und des Erzählens der Textilien, die „Herstellungspraktiken” pädagogische Praktiken und kosmologische Darbietungen“ (D. Haraway) sind. In der Performance werden das physische Erbe produktiver Arbeit und die Materialität der
Textil-(Baumwoll-)Produktion in Bewegungspraktiken übersetzt, die
Projektionsflächen werden geknüpft und gewebt, bekleiden und verstecken gleichzeitig die Performer*innen. So erweist sich das Material selbst – die Baumwollleinwand – als Hauptakteur.
Der Vortrag findet in deutscher Sprache statt und ist für alle Studierenden offen.

In the workshop Performing Images, we will examine practices of the performativity of images and performance-based filmic work. We will undertake short interventions in a framed filmic space and discuss together how such interventions can be effective.

Kerstin Schroedinger is a filmmaker, artist and musician. Her historiographical practice questions the means of image production, historical linearities and ideological certainties of representation. In her work, she explores the interweaving of the history of industrialization and that of film.
Kerstin Schroedinger ist Filmemacherin, Künstlerin und Musikerin. Ihre historiographische Praxis befragt die Mittel der Bildproduktion, historische Linearitäten und ideologische Gewissheiten der Repräsentation. DNCB (2021), her collaborative work with Oliver Husain was shown as a performance, expanded cinema work, multi-channel installation at the Schwules Museum, Berlin and Bemis Center for Contemporary Art Omaha; mumok, Vienna and in the exhibition AIDS and its feelings at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter Oslo.

Her work Red, she said (with Mareike Bernien 2011) won the 3sat Förderpreis in the German Competition in Oberhausen in 2012.

For Rainbow's Gravity they were awarded the prestigious Fritz Winter Prize in Munich in 2015. In 2011/12 she took part in the LUX associate artist program in London with Ian White in London. In 2016, she graduated from the University of Westminster London with a PhD in Film matters Historical and Material Considerations on Sound, Movement and Color. From 2011 to 2020 she was a member of the CINENOVA Working Group, a collective dedicated to the care and maintenance of the CINENOVA Feminist Film and Video Collection in London. Since 2017 she has been a member of LaborBerlin, a self-organized analogue film lab in Berlin, for which she co-edited the reader Film in the Present Tense in 2018.
