Using excerpts from the works Bläue (2017), Fugue (2015) and other film excerpts, the lecture will shed light on the relationship between cinematic sound and image, in particular the specific role of the voice in film, between voiceover and subject carrier.

Anhand einiger Ausschnitte aus den Arbeiten Bläue (2017), Fugue (2015) und weiteren Filmausschnitten, beleuchtet der Vortrag das Verhältnis von filmischem Sound und Bild, insbesondere die spezifische Rolle der Stimme
im Film, zwischen Voiceover und Subjektträgerin.

We work with translation techniques from images to text, from sound to image and eye, hand and ear. Starting from image descriptions and techniques of audio description and subtitling for people with hearing impairments, we people with hearing impairments, we reflect on the (in)accessibility of the cinematic and discuss processes of translating images into sounds and vice versa.

Wir arbeiten mit Übersetzungstechniken von Bildern zu Text, von Sound zu Bild und Auge, Hand und Ohr. Ausgehend von Bildbeschreibungen und Techniken der Audiodeskription sowie der Untertitelung für Menschen mit Hörbeeinträchtigung reflektieren wir (Un-)Zugänglichkeiten des Filmischen und diskutieren Prozesse der Übersetzbarkeit von Bildern in Sounds und umgekehrt.

Kerstin Schroedinger is a filmmaker, artist and musician. Her historiographical practice questions the means of image production, historical linearities and ideological certainties of representation. In her work, she explores the interweaving of the history of industrialization and that of film.
Kerstin Schroedinger ist Filmemacherin, Künstlerin und Musikerin. Ihre historiographische Praxis befragt die Mittel der Bildproduktion, historische Linearitäten und ideologische Gewissheiten der Repräsentation. In ihren Arbeiten beforscht sie die Verwebungen der Geschichte der Industrialiserung und der des
Films.

DNCB (2021), her collaborative work with Oliver Husain was shown as a performance, expanded cinema work, multi-channel installation at the Schwules Museum, Berlin and Bemis Center for Contemporary Art Omaha; mumok, Vienna and in the exhibition AIDS and its feelings at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter Oslo.

Her films and videos have been shown at film festivals, exhibitions and screenings worldwide, including Wavelengths Toronto, Hong Kong International Film Festival, Berlinale Forum Expanded, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, MIT List Visual Arts Center Boston, US, Les Complices* Zurich, 17th Istanbul Biennale, 2nd Kiev Biennale, ngbk Berlin, CIC Cairo, Aphroditi Festival Athens. Her work Red, she said (with Mareike Bernien 2011) won the 3sat Förderpreis in the German Competition in Oberhausen in 2012.

For Rainbow's Gravity they were awarded the prestigious Fritz Winter Prize in Munich in 2015. In 2011/12 she took part in the LUX associate artist program in London with Ian White in London. In 2016, she graduated from the University of Westminster London with a PhD in Film matters Historical and Material Considerations on Sound, Movement and Color. From 2011 to 2020 she was a member of the CINENOVA Working Group, a collective dedicated to the care and maintenance of the CINENOVA Feminist Film and Video Collection in London. Since 2017 she has been a member of LaborBerlin, a self-organized analogue film lab in Berlin, for which she co-edited the reader Film in the Present Tense in 2018.
