In the form of a video and sound installation, the work why am I here today? examines discrepancies between the apparatus of control and the collective urge for freedom, as well as the question of individual existence. The bee colony plays a central role. It functions as a metaphor for the question of power relations, cohesion and mechanisms of a system into which every human being is also born without having any control over whether and under what circumstances their existence begins. Even the duration of individual existence is often out of one's own control. Violent confrontations between activists and the controlling authority repeatedly claim lives and freedoms at an early stage.

Due to the availability of the internet, the worldwide democracy movements are increasingly showing solidarity with each other and broadcasting events and confrontations via livestream channels, from which large parts of the footage is taken.

Collective chanting appears again and again in democracy movements. Often it unites and strengthens the participants. Sometimes it has a de-escalating effect in the physical clash of different forces.

Voices extracted from protest speeches shape a narrative consisting of existential questions and desires for freedom, joy, equality and political transparency.

Visual patterns, sound and image languages of different systems can be experienced in fragmented form. The vertical projection surfaces behave at an angle, at different angles to the space. They address a moment of "tilting".

Die Arbeit why am I here today? untersucht in Form einer Video- und Klanginstallation Diskrepanzen zwischen Kontrollapparat und kollektivem Freiheitsdrang sowie die Frage nach individueller Existenz. Das Bienenvolk spielt dabei eine zentrale Rolle. Es fungiert als Metapher für die Frage nach Machtverhältnissen, Zusammenhalt und Mechanismen eines Systems, in das auch jeder Mensch, ohne selbst Kontrolle darüber zu haben, ob und unter welchen Umständen seine Existenz beginnt, hineingeboren wird. Auch die Dauer der individuellen Existenz liegt oft nicht in eigener Hand. Gewaltsame Auseinandersetzungen zwischen AktivistInnen und der Kontrollinstanz fordern immer wieder frühzeitig Leben und Freiheiten ein.

Durch die Verfügbarkeit des Internets solidarisieren sich die weltweiten Demokratiebewegungen zunehmend untereinander und tragen Geschehnisse und Auseinandersetzungen über Livestream-Kanäle, welchen große Teile des Bildmaterials entnommen sind, nach außen.

Der kollektive Gesang taucht in Demokratiebewegungen immer wieder auf. Oft eint und stärkt er die Beteiligten. Manchmal wirkt er deeskalativ im physischen Zusammenstoß unterschiedlicher Kräfte.

Stimmen, extrahiert aus Protestreden gestalten ein Narrativ bestehend aus existentiellen Fragen und Wünschen nach Freiheit, Freude, Gleichberechtigung und politischer Transparenz.

Visuelle Muster-, Klang- und Bildsprachen unterschiedlicher Systeme werden in fragmentierter Form erfahrbar. Die vertikalen Projektionsflächen verhalten sich in Schräglage, in verschiedenen Winkeln zum Raum. Sie adressieren einen Moment des „Kippens“.
