DISIGNORANCE – Seeing in the Racist Fog
DISIGNORANZ - Sehen im Rassistischen Nebelfeld 
Our project focuses on aesthetics and image politics in the context of right-wing extremism and racism. This research is based on the investigation of aesthetic strategies that normalise right-wing and racist thinking – not only, but also in the digital space. However, we are particularly interested in the gaps in knowledge production that go hand in hand with the normalisation of right-wing and racist thinking. We aim to make these gaps visible by focusing on other forms of knowledge production, but also on other aesthetics and image and spatial politics, especially from a migrant and post-migrant perspective. We also aim to counteract the continued reproduction and amplification of an already constant flood of right-wing image politics and to work against both the excessive demands that accompany it and the normalisation that takes place within it. The questions and challenges associated with these issues will be approached in a process-oriented manner. This research project takes place in an exchange between art and philosophy in collaboration with the students of the academy. It is both a theoretical and an artistic investigation.






Ästhetik und Bildpolitik im Kontext von Rechtsextremismus und Rassismus bilden den Mittelpunkt des Projekts. Die Untersuchung von ästhetischen Strategien zur Normalisierung rechten sowie rassistischen Denkens – nicht nur, aber auch im digitalen Raum – stellt die Grundlage der Untersuchung dar. Dabei sind aber vor allem die Leerstellen der Wissensproduktion von Bedeutung, die mit der Normalisierung rechten und rassistischen Denkens einhergehen. Diese Leerstellen sollen sichtbar gemacht werden, indem andere Formen der Wissensproduktion, aber auch andere Ästhetiken, Bild- und Raumpolitiken, vor allem aus migrantischer und postmigrantischer Perspektive, ins Zentrum gestellt werden. Ebenso soll hiermit der weiteren Reproduktion als auch Gewichtung einer ohnehin schon ständig stattfindenden Flut rechter Bildpolitik und sowohl der damit einhergehenden Überforderung entgegengearbeitet, als auch die darin stattfindende Normalisierung zurückgestoßen werden. Den damit einhergehenden Fragen und Herausforderungen nähert sich das Projekt auf prozesshafte Art und Weise. Dieses Forschungsprojekt findet im Austausch zwischen Kunst und Philosophie in Zusammenarbeit mit den Studierenden der Akademie statt. Es handelt sich hierbei sowohl um eine theoretische als auch um eine künstlerische Auseinandersetzung.

DISIGNORANZ, with the short title “Aesthetic Interventions in a Racist Normality”, is part of the Forschungsverbund für Gegenwartsanalysen, Erinnerungspraxis und Gegenstrategien zum Rechtsextremismus in Bayern (Research Network for Contemporary Analyses, Memory Practice, and Counter-Strategies to Right-Wing Extremism in Bavaria, ForGeRex).


DISIGNORANZ ist unter dem Kurztitel „Ästhetische Interventionen in eine rassistische Normalität“ Teil des Forschungsverbunds für Gegenwartsanalysen, Erinnerungspraxis und Gegenstrategien zum Rechtsextremismus in Bayern (ForGeRex).
